The Voice of Hind Rajab
Screened in Bend, OR, March 13, 2026, followed by Omar Alqam's first live U.S. appearance.
About the film
January 29, 2024. Red Crescent volunteers receive an emergency call. A 6-year-old girl is trapped in a car under fire in Gaza, pleading for rescue. While trying to keep her on the line, they do everything they can to get an ambulance to her. Her name was Hind Rajab.
NPR's Leila Fadel speaks with the director of "The Voice of Hind Rajab."
Meet the real Omar
Omar is the main character of the movie, played by Palestinian actor, Motaz Malhees.
Omar is a Palestinian paramedic and humanitarian worker who served in the Central Operations Room of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) during the war on Gaza. He was one of the first to receive the call from the child Hind Rajab and attempted to coordinate her rescue under life-threatening conditions. Omar believes that humanitarian work is a mission and a moral responsibility before it is a profession; he continues his commitment to serving the people and conveying the truth as he lived it.
Omar joined us after the screening for his first live U.S. speaking appearance.
He dialed in live from Ramallah, West Bank–Palestine. We had live translators.
Read his latest interview with The Progressive magazine where he talks about his experience as an emergency operator and the life of a health care worker in the West Bank.
This event took place on March 13, 2026.
