About

Shararah Films is a platform which hosts free community documentary screenings in Central Oregon. We bring stories from people who want to be heard to the screen, and gather in person to watch and promote discussion. Each screening is often followed by conversations with directors, the people in the films, and local voices. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. Screenings are made possible by community partners and volunteers across the region.

Mission statement

Shararah Films is committed to cultivating political awareness that fortifies democracy and champions human rights, equality, and peace. We are dedicated to defending the rights of minority and Indigenous communities, sparking civic engagement, and fostering a society rooted in justice, dignity, and mutual respect for every individual.

The name

[sha-RAA-rah] means "truth" in Aramaic (ܫܪܪܐ) and "spark" in Arabic (الشّرارة). We bring truth to the screen, because truth, once seen, sparks movement.

Our partners
